The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red has responded to a recent report that quoted a developer as saying the ambitious RPG may not run in 1080p on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt Red marketing manager Tomasz Tinc tells GameSpot today that the studio is constantly optimizing
the game, and explains that a final resolution has not been determined.
the game, and explains that a final resolution has not been determined.
"As The Witcher 3 visual effects artist Jose Teixeira said, we are working hard on optimizing the game and nothing is set in stone," Tinc explained. "Our engine team remains optimistic and we will surely squeeze the most we can out of each console. I know you might be expecting concrete info like the final frame rate and resolution, but it's simply impossible to give you that sort of thing before the optimization process is complete."In an interview from Gamescom, Teixeria told World's Factory that CD Projekt Red is aiming for the highest possible resolution on PS4 and Xbox One, but he acknowledged that the game might not reach full HD. "I don't know if it's going to make it. To be honest, I really don't know. Probably not," he said. He did assure console players, however, that frame rate for The Witcher 3 should be at least 30fps.
This is not the first time the matter of resolution for The Witcher 3's PS4 and Xbox One versions has come up. In April, a Russian website claimed that the PS4 version of the game would run in 900p, while the Xbox One iteration would output in 720p--CD Projekt Red said this was just a rumor. And in May, CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski said "there's a chance" the PS4 version will run slightly better than the Xbox One version.
Resolution for current-generation consoles has been a hot-button issue of late, as many multiplatform titles often perform better on PS4 than Xbox One. Most recently, we learned that Microsoft pushed Blizzard to make Diablo III run in 1080p on Xbox One, bringing the game's resolution on par with the PS4 version.
The Witcher 3 was originally scheduled to launch this year, but was delayed in March and is now slated to launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 24, 2015. CD Projekt Red recently published a 37-minute gameplay walkthrough.
